Take My Breath—is exactly what The Weeknd's New Single did

Writer: Han Xuan ZhengHan Xuan Zheng

As always, The Weeknd never fails to deliver his 110%. With his release of “After Hours” last year being so recent, I was caught off guard when I heard that he was returning with new music so soon. In his recent interview with Apple Music, he mentioned that his new era is inspired by Britney Spears’s “Toxic,” which kept me intrigued by how his new sound will appeal to our ears.

Diving into his new release of “Take My Breath,” it reminded me very much of his sounds from his 2016 release “Starboy” and 2018 release “My Dear Melancholy.” I didn’t notice any new sounds in his production from my first listen, but I’m sure The Weeknd will demonstrate his growth as an artist and person in the rest of the album that will be coming soon. Again, as always, he gave it his all with the lyrics, narrating a story about a romance he had and the thrill that both parties felt. Vocally, I think he is experimenting with how he’s singing his songs, which is a reoccurring theme with The Weeknd, and one of the reasons why I admire him as an artist so much.

Ready for what’s to come and even “readier” for the album, I can’t wait for what songs are destined to be heard by our ears next. It is the start of a new era.
