50th Post Special: Music Week

Writer: Han Xuan ZhengHan Xuan Zheng

Coming onto the website this morning, I was shocked to see how many posts we have on the website already. It still feels like yesterday when the three of us came together and created our little corner in the grand scheme of the internet. To celebrate the 50th post, I decided to do a three-in-one music blog for this week reacting to and celebrating the new releases of this past week.

Let Somebody Go
Coldplay X Selena Gomez

Having listened to Coldplay's X&Y album and being a huge Selena Gomez fan, this was not a project I had expected from the two. Nonetheless, it was great to see how artists that I would never expect to get together contribute their part to music, like that time when Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie dropped a collab out of nowhere.

With that being said, I absolutely loved the ambiance of the song itself. Its calmness, the relaxation it brought me, how I can see myself falling asleep peacefully to this song. Throughout the experience, I paid less and less attention to the lyrics (in a good way) and began to just dive into the production aspect of the song. What a beautiful collaboration.

Love is Pain
FINNEAS

Knowing his part in his sister Billie Eilish's music, I went in with high expectations for his art, and needless to say, I was pleased with what I witnessed. It really seems like slow songs are the mood for today as it has been the trend so far, and would probably continue with Adele's Easy On Me next.

First, I want to appreciate the fact that the song is self-written by FINNEAS himself, which is something I always love and respect about artists. It just comes with a sense of authenticity and feeling that you are getting the real deal, you are getting to know the artist personally. Second, I absolutely loved the story-telling element that FINNEAS included throughout the song about a couple with a complicated relationship, and how Love is Pain. Being a Swiftie, songwriting is always the easiest path for a song to make its way into my heart, and this song did perfectly that.

Easy On Me
Adele

Last but ABSOLUTELY not least, Easy On Me from Adele after six years since her 25 album. I've always loved the complicity of sadness present through Adele's art and from what I've heard, this is yet another one adding onto her extending legacy.

This was absolutely the best I've heard today. Everything single element of the song was just on point. From her vocals that gave me goosebumps to the matching production that complements her voice perfectly and to the lyrics with certain lines "I had no time to choose what I chose to do." This is a song I will be streaming and obsessing over constantly for the next few weeks. Adele never disappoints.
