Backtracking to late November of 2018, pop singer Alessia Cara announced that she would be taking time from music and appearances in award shows. Though fans of Alessia received cute personal pictures from the singer throughout the years, the pop singer finally made her return to music on the 15th with “Sweet Dream.”

I knew I had to take a listen to the song just by the aesthetics of the song and the “era” that Alessia is about to deliver to her fans.

First off, the production of the song is very mellow and has a dreamy vibe to it, which is fitting considering the title of the song. It was not overproduced or repetitive, which makes me believe that the song will only age well from the first listen.

Looking at the lyrics, though it’s no work of Shakespeare, it expressed Alessia’s genuineness and true feelings she’s been dealing with. Quite frankly, I could relate to the song very much as well, especially the lines, “Songs are in my head, scary thoughts begin to worsen,” and “ I try to meditate it all away but damn it, it’s too quiet now.” Quarantined for a year has worsened not only my mental health but the general public as well. This song came in like the chicken noodle soup during a fever, the bandage to my wounds, it’s a feel-good song.

If you want a song to sing you to your “sweet dream,” and be calmed by a healing production, I would type Alessia Cara into your search bar.
