Hurricane Ida: Something to Reflect

Writer: Han Xuan ZhengHan Xuan Zheng

On the first day of September, my family and I experienced flooding in our home for the first time in our lives. The perfect word to describe the experience was “unexpected.” Truly, I had no clue that my house was building up with water as I worked on my projects in my room. It wasn’t until my parents came home that we found there to be a concerning amount of water in our basement.

The cleanup process to say the least was painful. Having no prior experience with flooding in the house, we didn’t have any technology that would help us get rid of the water quickly. And so we had to do it the old-fashioned way by bucketing water out of the house. After more than two hours of work, my home was finally drained of any rainwater, but there was an abundance of dirt left to clean.

Overall, the cleaning process took two days and boy was it a journey. At least now we are more prepared than the last time for the storm, as expected that there would be more storms incoming. Were you affected by the storm that hit New York and New Jersey two days ago?
