A week ago, the world didn't get to enjoy the excellence that is Squid Game. Day after day of being busy, I finally cleared some time to watch the first episode of the show on Sunday—and it was amazing.

At its core, I've always thought any show that has combined the ideas of innocence of childhood with the barbaric world together was prepositioned to excellence.

And of course, that was definitely the case for Squid Game. Though I've only
seen one of the many games of the Squid Game, let me be clear that the first game was heartbreaking, frustrating, questioning, and relieve all at once. Seeing people labeled off just as a number definitely was heartbreaking for me, and when they were "eliminated," to the system, it was just one number of the 456 gone, when there is a whole history behind that person. Not to get controversial, but seeing the players get numbered off like that in the show, really makes me question our Justice system. It raises the questions of "Why are we numbering prisoners?" and "Is Squid Game enacting as a warning to us a society?"

Speaking just simply of the episode production itself, it reminded me very much of a Black Mirror Episode, but in the show's own special way. Instead of focusing on the consequences of technology like Black Mirror, Squid Game focuses on the issues of the wealth gap (notably a problem in South Korea) and the measures people would take to fight for money in a world where money is everything. Besides just numbering players off, when the black hooded figure started playing Jazz and laid back on a sofa as people were getting slaughtered, it really showed the distance that wealth can put between people. To the point where it is seen as entertainment instead of actual lives are taken and not just numbers from a system.
The first episode definitely was not a let-down from all the excitement I've built up for the show. I can't wait to keep watching and finish the show. What are your thoughts on Squid Game? Do you think this is a foreseeable future for us? Or do you think it might even be happening already?
