A Show to Replace your Bedtime Stories with

Writer: Han Xuan ZhengHan Xuan Zheng

Late last year, I finally watched the series “American Horror Story” that I had been dying to start, but could not due to school work and other factors. I quickly became a big fan as the combination of historical references, interesting characters, and engrossing themes of the seasons drew me in. As a side note, my top three favorite seasons are Asylum, Freak Show, and Hotel for my AHS fans.

Earlier this year, Ryan Murphy, the producer of American Horror Story announced a spinoff, “American Horror Stories,” with an ”ies.” The new series was said to continue from the themes of the original series, adding a new taste to a familiar flavor for hardcore and new fans.

On the 15th of July this year, the first two episodes debuted, as the others are awaiting their debut each week. Being the die-hard fan that I am, I watched the two new episodes immediately, and boy was I captivated.

The two episodes Rubber(wo)Man Part one and two references the first season, Murder House, of the original series. Instead this time, the story doesn’t center around a therapist with family issues, or teenage girl who was attracted to darkness, or a serial killer who is still alive, sort of. It features Scarlett as the Rubber Woman, who struggles with her own identity and the darkness that resides within her.

Murphy’s decision of starting a new series featuring familiar settings for old fans was incredibly smart commercially and just overall. Not only could Murphy branch out and tell many stories that he wasn’t able to tell in past seasons, which the fans are totally here for. Murphy is able to nourish the bond between the old fans, as it may have loosened due to not having a season last year as it would’ve, Murphy, is also reaching out with ties to possible new fans that can create strong bonds and draw in new audiences.

Having finished the two available episodes out of the seven in the show’s first season, I am currently dying for more and will be waiting desperately until next week arrives.
